| Personality | He's uaully pretty outgoing and energetic, almost to a fault. He's not really well skilled socially though, so tends to just withdraw if confronted about a social error. He's at his most comfortable when conversating about things like comics, video games, superheroes, or technical things, though a lot of his latter knowledge seems to come from shows like his favorite, Coast to Coast PM with Art Badger. |
| Powers | He only really has one power, the ability to take seeming junk and assemble it into incredible devices that work. well at least when he uses them. His costume is covered in pockets that hold an assortment of spare parts, tools, duct tape rolls, chewing gum, baling wire, as well as devices he's already created such as his jet boots that, in conjection with an inertial modifier on his belt, allows him to fly. His helmet which gives him vision in a wide range of spectrums as well as specialized enhanced or protected hearing, radio transmission abilities, and head protection of course. Also commonly used are a souped up Timex Sinclair 1000 computer, a special analyzer that can detect things liek temperature and magnetic fluctuations nad analyze chemicals and other sorts of samples. He also carries a variety of weapondry he's designed, but nothing overtly lethal. |
| Weaknesses | Superpowers-wise, his powers only work as long as he is actually in CONTACT with a device and the device is to the design he made. If someone alters the design or breaks his contact with it, the decide becomes just what it looks like, a bunch of junk taped together. Without his gadgets, he is a normal human being with no extra ordinary skills or abilities. Socially his greatest weakness is the fact that he's never been in many social situations and tends to be clueless sometimes as to what to do. When in such a situation, he usually finds it easiest to try to just withdraw from it. |
| Skills | He is knowledgeable about mundane electronics and mechanics and can repair ordinary items without having to use his powers. He is an avid video game player and follows reports of superheroes, both fictional and real, but sometimes he mixes the two up. His mother gave him some medical abilities that are just above basic first aid and CPR. |

| Description | Before you is a small Gerbil, about 5 feet in height with a bit of a chunky build. His brown fur is probably about the only thing normal looking about him. He wears a very odd looking helmet on his head that looks like it began with a football helmet, but then gained some antennae, a lot of tin foil, wire and little lights wrapped seemingly randomly, big goggles on the front and a kitchen egg timer on the side? For clothing he wears a bright orange fishing vest with dozens of bulging pockets and some tan cargo pants with the same. His feet are thrust into a pair of black cowboy boots with little rockets on the sides and finally it's all topped off with a bulky overcoat covered in more pockets form which wire and screwdrivers, string, and all other sorts of odds and ends seem to stick out. |
| Other Description |
Before you is a young gerbil in his early twenties. He only stands about 5 feet tall and maybe even a little under, it's hard to tell. It's easy to tell though he's got a bit rounder of a shape than just fuzziness from his brown fur can account for. A pair of glasses sits on his muzzle over his little black nose and frames his brown eyes. Clothing-wise, it appears that he's ready for work. He wears a light blue chambray shirt with the name Jacob stencilled over the right pocket and a pair of bluejeans. His feet are stuck into a pair of white athletic shoes though it's doubtful he ever does much running. Finally he wears a red nylon windbreaker that's silkscreened on the back "FRENCH'S REPAIR SERVICE If your electronics fry, call the French! 555-2746" |
| History |
Gadget Gerbil's real name is Jacob Mortimer French, the son of a factory employee in a Kiwi Rendering Plant and an ER nurse. Jacob was a bit of a dreamer all his life. He didn't have an interest in sports, daydreamed in class which made his grades usually around the C level even though he was quite bright, and often either just hung out by himself or with those other students termed as freaks and geeks. What he dreamed most about was becoming an Offender. He kept a scrapbook of newspaper clippings and magazine articles about them and other super heroes. His biggest trouble was he didn't have any powers though. He tried laying out in the sun, but didn't soak up any cosmic rays or solar radiation other than a sunburn. He tried cooking a hotdog for an hour and a half in the microwave hoping it would absorb radiation and give him some power, but it just caught fire. Finally he though maybe he could become a technical genius and make a suit of armor, but his grades were too low for scholarships and his parents couldn't even afford to send him to college. The best he could do was check out books from the library and dumpster dive for parts to tinker with. But then it was that his power did start to reveal itself. He could take the oddest assortment of gadgets and assemble them and make it actually WORK, but only for him. In someone else's paws, at best it would spark and smoke, but usually they would work perfectly as a paperweight. Jacob got an idea that maybe he could do some Superheroing after all. He started a business fixing mundane things like TVs and VCRs and Toasters to give him money and still allow him to be available when justice called. But he began setting up the first ideas for Gadget Gerbil at the same time. A trip to the thrift store found him a nice trench coat he added more pockets into and a fishing vest that already had plenty. He knew he needed a mask, so he made one from assorted junk that could act as a protective helmet, radio, and goggles that could let him see all sorts of things. Some boots he added little jet engines to and cargo pants and he was ready to help fight crime! Gadget Gerbil forgot he wasn't much of an imposing sight, only about 5 feet tall with a bit of a paunch wearing a helmet that looked like it was made by a listener to Art Badger on Coast to Coast AM (which he did but only for the technical breakthrough segments. Really!) And clothing just recently come from the Salvation Army. But filling up his pockets with the gadgets he came up with, tools and spare parts to make other things on the fly if he needed, he figured he would be ready for any eventuality. After his first real battle, he was glad he had paid attention to his mother's complaints of various injuries that came into the ER so he could design gadgets to help heal himself up before people asked too many questions. Super Heroing on your own isn't as easy as it seems. He decided, he needed to get himself on a Superhero team, or at least make some super friends, which is easier said than done for 23 year old who had spent most of his life thus far as a loner geek. But even when it feels like he's just running on a big wheel and getting nowhere, his dream is always in his mind, to someday become respected enough to become... an Offender! |
